Game of Thrones

Stephen recently forced me to watch the first episode of Game of Thrones, based on the series A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin. At first, I wasn’t convinced. It’s a medieval fantasy series with quite graphic sex and violence, and I’m generally a fan of things more reality-based. While Stephen was away I watched a few more episodes and started to get hooked on the characters. I started googling to find out more about the backstory of the characters and then decided I should probably just read the books.

My brother is a fan of fantasy novels, so I txted him to ask if he’d read them. He replied affirmatively so I asked if I could borrow them. His reply was:

Hahaha you dick. I’ve tried to make you read it a few times. It’s the one I made Stephen read.

That’s when I remembered that a few years ago my brother tried very hard over several months to get me to read those novels but I consistently refused. He told me they were fantasy novels so I asked if they had dragons. When I found out they did, I didn’t even bother to read the covers or find out anything more about the books. I was insistent that I preferred my fiction to be reality-based. He eventually gave up on me and started working on Stephen instead, managing to persuade him to read them. He enjoyed them, which is what prompted him to download Game of Thrones and ultimately forced me to watch and get hooked as well.

I’ve now borrowed the first two books from my brother. I’ll update later on what I think of them, but I can definitely wholeheartedly recommend the Game of Thrones TV series, provided of course you have no issues with full frontal nudity, fairly explicit sex and graphic violence.
