Thus spake wikipedia. It means fear of the number 666. Obviously that particular fear originates from the Bible, where the book of Revelations clearly reveals to us the danger:

Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six. (Revelation 13:18)

Earlier in Revelation 13 it is explained that the beast - who has horns like a lamb(wtf?) and speaks like a dragon(wtf?) - is going to put a mark on everyone. And if you don't have that mark, or his name or number on you, then you aren't allowed to buy and sell anything. Scary stuff indeed - better make sure you get that number correct.

But is it right? The earliest manuscript of Revelation is Papyrus 115, and it gives a different number of the beast: 616. So I guess the most appropriate fear for christians to hold is hexakosioidekahexaphobia.
