Tip Truck
I saw this accident just after it happened yesterday morning. I was on the shuttle from Tamaki to the city campus and we must've come around the corner literally just after it happened.
Two cars had stopped and their drivers were running towards the truck, meanwhile one woman was running away up the footpath with her hands over her ears.
There was diesel spurting out of the bottom of the truck on to the road, and there were big gouges on the lawn where the whole truck and container unit had evidently slid for several metres on its side.
The driver was still in the cab, down in a ball on the ground. I don't know whether he was thrown down there because he didn't have his seatbelt on, or fell down there when he took his seatbelt off, but he seemed to be crumpled up in a heap. He was moving though, so I knew he wasn't dead.
The road is canted the wrong way on the outside of that bend, but I think the truck must've either had an unbalanced load or was speeding (or both) to cause it to just tip completely over like that. The Herald says the Police are investigating the cause.
