Wedding butterflies
People getting married seem to think it's a lovely romantic thing to release butterflies at their wedding. I personally don't really see the relevance, but then, I can't really fathom all the mushy sentimental nonsense most people think passes for romance anyway, so maybe I'm not the best judge.
I have no problem with nice flying butterflies. In fact, I quite like butterflies, especially Monarchs. We had swan plants full of them when I was a kid. We had over 80 chrysalis's hatching down the side of the house once.
But do the people wanting a butterfly release at their wedding really think about what happens to the butterflies before they get released?
I'll tell you what. They are kept, individually wrapped in little cardboard boxes in the fridge. It's kinda like cryogenics only not so far - just slows them down a bit. Now, I'm sorry, but the idea of keeping a fridge full of boxed butterflies just kinda creeps me out. It certainly doesn't seem even remotely romantic.
