Family

I think family is one major component of most people’s lives, albeit one that we are stuck with and can’t change. I think I’m relatively lucky in this regard that I get on well with my parents and siblings and most of my extended family.

My parents and my two siblings and I all live in the same city, although widely scattered so that we are 20-30 minutes drive away from each other. We don’t all get together very often – a few times a year for birthdays, Christmas and other occasional functions, but I’m in contact with at least one family member once a week or more.

We tend to chat online more than we actually talk on the phone, but this is probably because I don’t have a landline. I’m also not very good about calling them unless I have something to ask or say. My sister is the chatterbox – she’s the one who usually calls people up for no reason other than being bored, and so she’s the one who relays news around the family. She also visits my parents a lot more often than I do – staying with them for weekends every now and then to visit her friends who live nearby.

My sister is expecting a baby in a few months time, so my aim is to visit a lot more often after the baby is born. I also think it would be good for me to spend more time with my parents – more visits and more phone calls. My dad will be 60 soon, and my mum isn’t far behind. I know they won’t be around forever and since I do enjoy their company, I should make time to spend with them while I can.
