A student came to see me today looking very serious. He explained that he got zero for a certain part of the assignment and wanted to know why. Then he said:
I implemented something different. Do I actually have to make it do what the specification says?
Ummm, YES! Hello? Just what do you think is the point of this entire course?
*Sigh*, I really wish I could actually say that to students instead of just thinking it.

Oh dear… what to say, eh?!
Students will always be students…
At least you don’t get this from your colleagues… well maybe not too often.
Today I was asked…
Did you see that email xxx had sent?
Yes
Then the person repied to that email.
Then the user replied back…
Did you see that person replied back and CC’ed you?
Yes
Do you want me to reply?
Hmm… I don’t know, why don’t we ask your supervisor?
But he’s away from his desk at the moment.
So we are still waiting for my supervisor to return?
(I pretended to be dumb) Huh?? What ??
I have to reply to the user.
So what’s stopping ya?
Oh….
Then eventually this colleague started investigating and replying.
Oh well… So I guess a bit of patience paid off.
No wonder they say patience is a virtue. I really should try that more often.

Hehe, looks like your students are learning to be software developers. At least very similar to many that i have met. Specifications? We don’t need no stinkin’ specifications!
